We were appointed to refurbish the roof of a Grade II listed property in Ware, Hertfordshire. Believed to date back to the 1600s, the building holds significant historical value. The main objective was to restore the slate roof using reclaimed materials, ensuring the external appearance remained true to its original character while upgrading the internal roofing structure to modern standards.

Due to the listed status of the building, all visible materials, including the slates, ridge cappings, tiles, and cement work, had to match the original design. However, we were permitted to install modern roofing components beneath the surface to improve performance and durability.

The finished roof preserves the original aesthetic of the 17th-century building while benefiting from modern roofing techniques beneath the surface. By combining reclaimed surface materials with up-to-date underlay and battens, we ensured the project met both conservation requirements and long-term performance goals.
