Restoration of Roof on Midland Bank Building, Hertford

Fore Street, located in the centre of Hertford Town, boasts an attractive high street lined with various protected buildings. AM Roofing was proud to be entrusted with the renovation of the roof on The Midland Bank Building, a Grade 2 listed building recognised as “of special interest, warranting every effort to preserve it.

The renovation involved insulating the roof with modern materials and securing it with new battens. Our project aimed to replace deteriorating elements of the roof’s structure while adhering strictly to the guidelines for listed buildings, which mandate the use of like-for-like materials to preserve its original character.

We recycled and sourced Welsh slates and lead, originally used in the building’s construction, which were essential to maintaining the authenticity and integrity of the roof.

Each slate was carefully selected to ensure consistency in quality and appearance with the original roof.

The restoration was completed successfully, maintaining the aesthetic and historical integrity of the Midland Bank Building. The use of authentic materials not only preserved the look and feel of the building but also ensured that the restoration met all regulatory requirements for a Grade 2 listed building.
